Eating Out in the Carlisle area

Because the population is so low in the surrounding area, unsurprisingly, there are only a small number of restaurants. Local pubs are very much on the decline with drink driving laws forcing most of them to close in recent years.

The nearest restaurant to the property is The Marchbank Hotel, which is just half a mile up the A7 on the left hand side, just before the Border. It is closed at lunchtime, but has very good food in the evenings.

The Sycamore Tree Cafe in Longtown also gets good reviews.

The Cross Keys at Canonbie and The Graham Arms in Longtown are the nearest pubs.

The  Penton Bridge Inn at Penton is popular and has delicious food, cooked by Marcus Wareing trained chefs

The Hidden River Cafe at Easton is a nic eplace for lunch.

The Crossings Inn at Roweltown is open 11.00am to 11.00pm 7 days a week

Smith’s Hotel in Gretna has good food with the added bonus of a parade of weddings going on most of the time!

Laing’s Coffee Shop at Harker, half a mile this side of the M6 Junction 44 is always packed and famous for its home cooked food.

Carlisle has a lot of restaurants - Bartons Yard at The Halston, The Shabby Scholar and David’s all have had good press recently.
